Clark County's Growth Task Force has identified a list of priorities for dealing with urban design and natural resources issues, a key step in its effort to develop concrete recommendations for dealing with growth in Southern Nevada.
Members began studying growth issues in March as part of the Clark County Commission's Community Growth Management Initiative. The commission appointed a diverse group of community leaders and ordinary citizens to serve on the 17-member task force. The task force is studying four key areas of concentration: urban design, natural resources, public facilities planning and intergovernmental coordination.
In October, the task force sorted through a large list of discussion issues to set priorities for urban design and natural resources.
Urban design priorities include amending land-use regulations to include mixed-use developments, encouraging infill development, identifying prime areas for infill and redevelopment, expanding the mass transportation system to include rapid transit and light rail options, and pre-packaging affordable housing deals through land acquisition, planning and special handling.
