National Public Works Week is
a celebration of the tens of thousand of men and
women in North America who provide and maintain
the infrastructure and services collectively
known as public works. Instituted as a public
education campaign by the American Public Works
Association in 1960, National Public Works Week
calls attention to the importance of public
works to the quality of our community life.
During this week,
recognition is given to the ways that public
works is an essential and everyday part of our
lives. Engineering and other professionals
work everyday to design, build, maintain, and
manage essential systems that provide water,
sewer, transportation, neighborhood maintenance,
traffic safety, and other critical services
necessary, throughout the community.
The theme for this year's
National Public Works Week is "Public Works
Is Everywhere You Look." This theme is
especially fitting as public works services are
provided with the hard work and cooperation of
several agencies as: Clark County departments of
Public Works, Real Property Management, Water
Reclamation; Regional Flood Control District;
Regional Transportation Commission of Southern
Nevada; and the public works agencies in each of
the incorporated cities.
Just think how your day
would be changed if there were no roadways or
ways to dispose of your sewage! For more

public works agencies, check out their web pages
