Growth Task Force to Hold Evening Forum on Dec. 14

If you want to learn more about Clark County’s Community Growth Management Initiative, you may want to attend a special public forum on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 5:30 p.m. in the Mead Conference Room of the Las Vegas Valley Water District, 1001 S. Valley View Blvd

The meeting is being held in the evening to accommodate the schedules of residents who can’t attend the Growth Task Force’s regular meetings, usually held the last Tuesday of every month at noon in the theater of Winchester Community Center at 3130 McCleod Drive.

“Everyone has an opinion about growth,” said Commissioner Bruce Woodbury. “In the next few months, the Growth Task Force will be finishing its work and submitting recommendations to the County Commission for consideration. This forum is a special chance for citizens to be heard.”

The public forum will include a presentation to update attendees on the work of the Growth Task Force to date. The County Commission organized a 17-member task force in March to launch a valley-wide discussion about growth. The task force is studying growth issues in depth, including urban design, natural resources, public facilities planning and intergovernmental coordination.

In the spring of 2005, the task force is scheduled to submit a list of recommendations to the commission to help the community balance the demands of living in the fastest-growing region in the country with protecting and enhancing the valley’s quality of life

“It’s not easy to wrap your arms around such a broad topic because growth affects so many facets of our life in Clark County,” said Commissioner Rory Reid. “We want to look at the pros and cons of ideas and come up with a menu of tools that are likely to work best for our community.”

All Growth Task Force meetings are videotaped for rebroadcast on Clark County Television (CCTV) cable Channel 4. Air dates and times for the Dec. 14 meeting include Thursday, Dec. 16 at 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11:30 a.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m.
