January Workshops Scheduled

Residents, builders and business operators interested in the future development of these communities in are invited to attend workshops to discuss the area’s land use plan update on Jan. 7 and Jan 14, 2008.  The meetings are being held on Monday nights from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate as many members of the public as possible.

Land-use plans are important because they guide growth in the area’s neighborhoods. The upcoming workshop is a public meeting where county staff will gather comments from residents, business owners and developers about the future of the South County land use plan. The South County area includes the Eldorado Valley area, Nelson, Cal-Nev-Ari and Palm Gardens.

The update of the South County land use plan is the eighth to take place since the County Commission adopted a new ordinance in 2003 to make master plans more reliable.  Spring Valley, Enterprise, Sunrise Manor, Laughlin, Winchester/Paradise and the Northeast County land use plan updates have been recently adopted. The land use plan update process takes about 12 months.

Draft plans will reflect the community input gathered at the open house. The future updated plan will also reflect feedback received from the public meetings.  The input received will be forwarded to the Town Advisory Boards, the Planning Commission and eventually the County Commission.
