With
Flash Flood Season at the halfway point, the Regional
Flood Control District has announced its 2007 Flood
Safety License Plate Billboard Contest winners.
From nearly 1,200 entries on the Flood District’s
website, BADGMBLE
was chosen as this year’s winner.
Longtime
Las Vegas resident, Tina Kirchner, submitted the winning
entry. City of Las Vegas Councilman and RFCD Board
Chairman Larry Brown recognized Kirchner at the
District’s August 9th board meeting. Brown said,
“The contest is an opportunity to get the community
involved in our flood safety campaign. We
appreciate that so many residents took the time to
submit flood safety messages to keep people away from
flood water.”
For
the first time, the District also held a contest for a
Spanish billboard. On the District’s website, 26
Spanish billboards were entered. Javier Gonzalez
submitted the winning billboard, H2OAQUI,
which translated means “there is water here.”
Gonzalez was also recognized by Brown at the
District’s board meeting.
The
BADGAMBL billboard will be posted during Flash Flood
Season near Grand Central Parkway and Charleston
Boulevard. H2OAQUI will be displayed near Nellis
and Lake Mead Boulevards.
This
year’s contest brought in nearly three times as many
entries as last year. Winning flood safety
messages from the last three contest years were UNOBETR,
2DEEP4U and W8ITOUT.
