Clark County Boating Facilities and Safety Committee in partnership with the Nevada Yacht Club offers a sail and safety training program.  The Nevada Yacht Club Sail & Safety Training program is a series of classroom and on-the-water instruction sessions covering basic topics of seamanship, water safety, and boating courtesy.

The training is offered twice a year, one in April  and the one in September.

Times and Places for fall classes:

  • September 22nd at 8 a.m. at Boulder Beach Water Safety Education building

  • September 23rd 8 a.m. at Lake Mead Marina

Each session is comprised of eight hours of classroom time and is conducted in accordance with US Sailing guidelines. Instruction is provided by Nevada Yacht Club members. Each formatted topic is discussed at length with emphasis on class participation.

During the on-the-water portion of the sail training series, participants learn first-hand from experienced skippers. Various topics such as boat hardware and terminology, boat handling and water safety, reading the wind and understanding prevailing weather patterns are covered. High emphasis is placed on all safety equipment mandates and procedures.  Attendance is open to the public.
