Three
Open House Dates Offered to Kick Off Process
Residents,
builders and business operators interested in the future
development of Southern Clark County are invited to
attend one or more of three open houses to discuss the
area’s land use plan update on Monday, Sept. 10,
Tuesday, Sept. 11, and Wednesday, Sept. 12.
The meetings are being held on weeknights from 5 p.m. to
7 p.m. at different locations in the community to
accommodate as many members of the public as possible.
Land-use
plans are important because they guide growth in the
area’s neighborhoods. The upcoming open houses are the
first in a series of public meetings where county staff
will gather comments from residents, business owners and
developers about the future of the South County land use
plan. The South County area includes the Eldorado Valley
area, and the communities of Searchlight and Sloan. The
Searchlight open house will incorporate Cal-Nev-Ari,
Nelson, and Palm Gardens. The location schedule is as
follows:

The
update of the South County land use plan is the eighth
to take place since the County Commission adopted a new
ordinance in 2003 to make master plans more reliable.
Spring Valley, Enterprise, Sunrise Manor, Laughlin,
Winchester/Paradise and the Northeast County land use
plan updates have been recently adopted. The land use
plan update process takes about 12 months.
At
the open houses county planners will be seeking
information regarding community issues.
“The
lack of infrastructure in Eldorado Valley impacts any
future uses while in the communities around Searchlight
future water allotment may determine the feasibility of
further development,” said Commissioner Bruce
Woodbury, who represents most of South County.
“Citizen participation is a vital part of our land-use
plan update process. We need residents and business
owners to tell us what they want for their
communities.”
“In
Sloan recent industrial expansion may affect potential
residential uses,” said Commissioner Susan Brager who
represents Sloan. “Potential visual impacts to
the I-15 corridor must be considered in regard to future
projects. The update process is your chance to tell us
how you want to see growing areas of our South County
develop.”
Draft
plans presented at additional open houses will reflect
the community input gathered at the first open houses.
The future updated plan will also reflect feedback
received from all open houses. The input received
will be forwarded to the Town Advisory Boards, the
Planning Commission and eventually the County
Commission.
