World Steps Series Features Shirley Chen and Dancers Oct. 7

Clark County Parks and Recreation’s World Steps dance series continues with Chinese dance at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Shirley Chen and Dancers will present the performance. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors.

Shirley Chen graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in dance and helped to establish the American Chinese Dance Association, which schedules many performances and cultural functions throughout the year to promote Chinese culture. Chen created Shirley Chen and Dancers in 1992 after returning from an inspirational trip to Taiwan.

Chen moved to the Las Vegas Valley in 1995 and continued her efforts to teach Chinese dance and promote her culture. She and her dancers perform and lecture at various elementary, middle and high schools, universities, local libraries and events held by the City of Las Vegas and Clark County.

The World Steps series was created in response to requests by those who enjoyed Winchester Cultural Center’s World Vibration music series. Both showcase the rich cultural talent of the people who make Las Vegas home. The World Steps series continues with Brazilian dance on Nov. 4.
