The Department of Energy recently released two Yucca Mountain supplementary Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) for public comment. The first is a draft EIS for the repository itself, and the second document focuses on the rail corridor and other related transportation issues. Members of the public can view the DOE documents online at: www.eh.doe.gov/nepa.  The public comment period for these environmental documents is Oct. 12 through Jan. 10, 2008.

The only public hearing scheduled to be held in Las Vegas is Monday, Dec. 3 at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. from 4 to 7 p.m. To register in advance to present oral comments at this hearing call 1-800-225-6972. Or, you can FAX comments to the DOE at 1-800-967-0739 or submit comments via the Internet at: www.ocrwm.doe.gov.  Additionally, the County has established an offsite e-mail account for residents to submit comments that will be included in Clark County’s official response to the draft EIS documents. E-mail your comments to: YuccaOpinions@aol.com.  For more details on the DOE documents or the public comment hearing, contact Erik Muller, public information officer, Nuclear Waste Program at 702-455-5185.
