University Medical Center
(UMC) has been named to the 2007 list of the best places
to work in the government category by the Southern
Nevada Human Resources Association (SNHRA).
“We
are proud to be named one of the best places to work in
Southern Nevada,” said Kathy Silver, UMC interim chief
executive officer. “UMC has implemented several
initiatives to benefit our employees, including the
creation of an employee retention strategy committee,
hiring and retention bonuses, mentoring programs,
diversity sensitivity training and others. We know that
our best resource is our employees, and we want to do
everything we can to ensure UMC remains a top place to
work.”
According to the SHNRA, candidates were judged based on
recruitment and retention, performance management,
employee benefits, work-life balance, employee
communications and morale, employee relations and
inclusiveness and diversity.
Judges commended UMC for its various
mentoring programs. UMC actively works with various
colleges in placing healthcare students in internships.
Internally, UMC encourages career-path mentoring for
employees looking to expand their horizons into
administration or alternate careers.
