Nancy McLane was appointed Director of Social Service by
the County Commission.
McLane is a 25-year employee of the county and has
served as the interim director of Social Service since
July.
“Nancy has done an excellent job during the last few
months of stabilizing the department and reaching out to
stakeholders,” County Manager Virginia Valentine said.
“She has won the confidence of the staff and the
agencies that interact with Social Service.”
Before July, McLane was assistant director of the
Department of Family Services, where she oversaw the
administrative and quality assurance/quality control
divisions during a period of rapid growth and major
reform. She has held that position since February 2006
and also served as acting director of Family Services
from May through July 2006.
Prior to that, McLane was assistant director of Social
Service from July 2000 to August 2005 and a Social
Service manager from November 1998 through July 2000.
She also served as acting director of Social Service
from August to December 2005.
The
Department of Social Service handles the county’s
health, welfare and community responsibilities. The
primary mandates are to provide financial and medical
assistance and protective services for seniors. Social
Service is also responsible for other programs and
duties assigned by the County Commissioners. The
department includes about 159 full-time employees and
has an annual budget of $93.6 million.
