The 11th annual
hazardous materials conference dubbed HazMat Explo will
be held Nov.5-8 at the Tuscany Suites & Casino at 255 E.
Flamingo Road in Las Vegas.
The conference is open
to the public, but emergency-response personnel are
especially encouraged to attend to learn the most
up-to-date strategies for dealing with hazardous
material issues. The conference registration fee is
$150. After Oct. 7 the registration fee will be $200.
Trained hazardous
materials professionals and industry experts will offer
workshops and presentations on a variety of issues
including homeland security, radiological threats,
emergency response planning and first-responder incident
management.
Conference workshops
begin on Monday, Nov. 5 at 8 a.m. Opening
ceremonies will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 8 a.m.
starting with a flag presentation by the Panaca Fire
District Honor Guard, and singing of the National Anthem
by William Webb, emergency manager for Elko County.
Tuesday opening events will be followed by the keynote
address from Carole Cameron, a U.S. Homeland Security
Department deputy director in charge of incident
management. Her remarks will stress the importance of
National Incident Management System Training, scene
safety and the role of volunteer firefighters in rural
communities.
An exhibit hall will be
open for one day on Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m.
to 3 p.m. Conference exhibitors will display a
variety of emergency response products and services,
including decontamination tents and hazardous materials
protective suits.
