Parks and Recreation demonstrated the County’s
excellence when it recently received four program and
park awards at the Nevada Recreation and Parks
Society’s Annual Conference. The department’s
Aquatics Program won for the Junior Triathalon; Paradise
Recreation and Community Center won for its teen program
Punk Rock Paradise, the Cultural Division’s Winchester
Center won for its World Vibration folk music
series; and Lone Mountain Children’s Discovery
Park won the Elmer Anderson Park Award.
The
department was also honored with several kudos from the
Las Vegas Review-Journal’s annual “Best of Las
Vegas” poll. Sunset Park, a perennial favorite, was
singled out for Best Park, as were its ball fields and
tennis courts. Desert Breeze was second in the Best Park
category and won for Best Skate Park. The Wetlands Park
was cited as the Best Place to Watch Nature.
