Free
Concerts at the
County
Amphitheater
May 5, June 2 and 9
The
free Jazz in the Park concert series welcomes national
acts for its 13th year at the Clark County Amphitheater,
500 S. Grand Central Parkway
, at
8 p.m.
May 5, June 2 and 9. Seating for those with picnic
baskets, blankets and low-back chairs will begin at
7 p.m.
Food and beverage vendors also will be available
on site. Parking is free. The series is produced by
Clark
County
Parks
and Recreation.
Saxophonist
Paul Taylor will launch the series on May 5. Taylor, a
Denver
native, was discovered by keyboardist Keiko Matsui at
the Catalina Island Jazz Festival. Matsui hired him to
play in the band of her and her husband, Kazu Matsui.
Kazu Matsui produced
Taylor
’s debut album in 1995 On the Horn, which reached the
jazz charts and created the hit Til We Meet Again.
Taylor’s most recent album, Nightlife, was released in
2005 on Peak Records, a label started by The Rippingtons’
Russ Freeman which features an A list of contemporary
jazz artists.
Taylor
is a graduate of UNLV’s nationally recognized jazz
program.
June
2 features vocalist Jimmy Scott and guitarist Bill
Frisell performs June 9.
