University Medical Center (UMC) hosted a public open
house in April for its new Northeast Tower. Residents
were able to tour the tower to see the new additions
first hand.
The
Northeast Tower is located off of West Charleston
Boulevard and Shadow Lane, and connects to the Adult
Emergency Center for easy access to the rest of the
hospital. It encompasses about 173,000 square feet, with
56 private rooms and all new state-of-the-art equipment.
The
new tower also includes:
-
An
expanded UMC Lions Burn Care Center
-
Food
Service, cafeteria and outdoor dining area
-
Medical
records department
-
Loading
docks for special deliveries
-
Doctors
lounge
Construction
of the 173,000-square-foot tower began in December of
2004, replacing buildings from 1930s. This marks another
phase of the hospital’s master facilities plan aimed
at improving the infrastructure of the county-owned
hospital.
The
new facility provides another technologically advanced
medical environment to the Las Vegas community. It
allows UMC to continue to provide comprehensive medical
care in a modern setting, and it gives patients more
options when they are cared for at UMC.

Since
1931, UMC has been providing comprehensive medical care
to the community. UMC is the only public, non-profit
hospital in Clark County and operates the state’s only
Level I Trauma Center and Lions Burn Care Center as well
as several Care Centers. UMC is affiliated with the
University of Nevada School of Medicine and serves as
the state's major clinical campus.
