Department
of Aviation employees displayed their generosity during a Books, Board Games and Movie drive
to benefit the children of Child Haven.
From
March 5-14, more than 1,700 children's books, board
games, movies and much more were donated. "Proud
does not even describe how I feel about what our
employees have done for Child Haven," said Rosemary
Vassiliadis, deputy director of aviation.
Employees
from Department of Aviation division contributed their
time and expertise to carry-out this worthwhile cause.
For example, Building Maintenance Shop employees
individually handcrafted 15 brightly colored toy boxes
that were used to collect donations during the 10-day
drive. On March 28, employees delivered the donated
items to Child Haven during its weekly barbecue. A
juggling magician, characters SpongeBob SquarePants,
Belle, Snow White, Cinderella and a curious pirate were
also on hand for the festivities.
DOA
employees volunteered their time during the two-hour
event to help serve food and play with the children.
"It's been a while since I've seen the entire
campus that happy," said Palma.
The
drive is part of the DOA's Adopt an Organization Program
developed this year to assist non-profit organizations
in need. Child Haven acts as an emergency shelter campus
for children who have been abused, neglected or
abandoned and is the first organization to benefit from
this new program.

Clark
County employees Kim Sherwood-Schofield, Jerry Pascual and
Glenn Glover visit with a toddler at Child Haven on
March 28.
