Basque
Culture Featured During World Steps Series June 3
Clark
County Parks and Recreation’s World Steps dance series
continues with dance from the Basque region of Spain and
France at 2 p.m. June 3 at Winchester Cultural Center,
3130 S. McLeod Drive. St. Members of the Stars of the
Valley dance group will perform. Admission is $10 for
adults, $7 for children and seniors.
The
Ibar Izarrak Euskal Dantza Taldea, or Stars of the
Valley, is a group of local Basques who come together to
celebrate their ancient heritage through dance. All
members of the group also belong to the Lagun Onak Las
Vegas Basque club, which has been celebrating and
preserving Basque culture in Las Vegas since 1980.
The
Stars of the Valley group performs original choreography
from all seven provinces of the Basque region, Euskal
Herria, including party, traditional honor and
story-telling dances. The group is under the direction
of Elizabeth Echeverria, and it has been performing
throughout the Las Vegas Valley and the West since it began in 1985.
The
World Steps series was created in response to requests
by those who enjoyed Winchester Cultural Center’s World Vibration music series. Both showcase the
rich cultural talent of the people who make Las Vegas home. The World Steps series continues with Irish dance
on July 8.
