Four Field Trips Offered at West Flamingo

Active adults with a taste for adventure can challenge themselves with four heart-pumping activities offered by  West Flamingo Center for Active Adults, 6255 W. Flamingo Road in July and August. Those over age fifty can try the Desperado Rollercoaster, the Lee Canyon Ropes Challenge Course, Flyaway Indoor Skydiving and indoor rock climbing.

On July 5 Buffalo Bill’s Desperado Rollercoaster trip takes participants to state line to experience one of the top ten rollercoasters in the country. From a height of 209 feet riders plunge at a tremendous speed into a succession of twists, turns and surprises. The ride is 2.43 minutes of heart-pounding fun. Cost is $15 which includes transportation. The trip starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. Registration begins June 5.

The Camp Lee Canyon Ropes Challenge Course, July 19 from  1 p.m. to 4 p.m., provides an exceptional opportunity for any individual to broaden their perspective, enjoy the outdoors, and interact with fellow participants. The course fosters team building, communication and motivation as well as being physically challenging. Cost is $8, including transportation. Registration begins June 19.

Flyaway Indoor Skydiving on Aug. 2 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. provides the experience of flying in a safe environment. No experience is necessary; the staff teaches all the skills needed to body-fly indoors. Registration begins July 2 and cost is $70, which includes activity fee and transportation.

On August 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the bus goes to Red Rock Climbing Center, where participants will get a 20 minute belay orientation designed to teach them how to top-rope belay. Intended for first-time climbers, the class will begin climbing immediately as they learn the proper use of equipment and knot tying and all the basics. Fee covers transportation, equipment rental and day pass to Red Rock. Those who complete the course will receive a basic belay certification. Registration will begin July 16.
