Winchester
Theater Boot Camp Begins at Cultural Center July 2
Registration
is now open for the Winchester Cultural Center Theater
Boot Camp for children ages 6 to 16 from 7 a.m. to 6
p.m. Monday through Friday from July 2nd through Aug.
18th at the center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive in southeast
Las Vegas. Cost is $550 for the entire camp or $350 for
4 weeks in July and $250 for 3 weeks in August, which
also includes field trips, the Young People’s Summer
Concert Series, big-screen movies and classes in dance,
drama, voice, set design, theater makeup and costuming.
Weekly
Wednesday field trips and guest entertainment whisk
children away to local destinations such as Mt. Charleston, Red Rock Conservation Area, and Swimming and
entertainment such as Amazing Clowns and Mad Science.
Specialists
lead the variety of classes. Children will be exposed to
ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop classes as well as voice,
basic piano, improvisation, comedy techniques, and
theater stage presence. Participants work toward a
singing, dancing and acting theatrical performance of
“Pirates in the Caribbean” on August 17th, 2007.
Susan
Swanson, camp director, has appeared on Broadway,
touring productions and television and has worked with
Tommy Tune, Ben Vereen, Debbie Allen and Gregory Hines,
to name a few. She also has taught at Henry Le Tang
Studies locally and in New York as well as choreographed and directed productions in
Indiana and Florida.
The
Youth Summer Concert Series also is included in the
weekly price. Shows from the Cirque du Soleil, Dragon
Arts Production’s “Images of China” puppetry show,
The World Famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater and Hand to
Mouth Storytellers performing “Family Yarns” are
scheduled. Other activities include water play days at
the center’s water feature, board games, competitions,
and cooperative games. The summer will end with a
variety show where campers showcase what they learned at
camp and a party to celebrate the end of summer.
Admission
to field trips, concerts and classes are included with
the monthly rates. Parents provide lunch, snacks and
beverages.
