ages in the hot summer months. Mail-in, online and
walk-in registration is currently available for all
three four-week and 12-week sessions beginning June 4.
Registration forms for classes are available at all
County community centers as well as inside the Class and
Activity Guide, also available at any Clark County community center. Online registration is available at www.accessclarkcounty.com.
There
is fun in the sun in County outdoor pools and water
parks. All water parks and the Sunset Neighborhood Pool
will be open Memorial Day weekend as well as June 2-3.
All other facilities will be open daily beginning June
9. Information on locations, hours and fees can be found
on the Web site and in the Class and Activity Guide.
The
Young People’s Concert Series kicks off June 28 with
performers from Cirque du Soleil. On July 12, Dragon Art
Studio presents “Images of China,” which blends
traditional Chinese rod puppets and music with elegance,
humor and special effects. The World Famous Popovich
Comedy Pet Theater, lead by former Moscow Circus
performer George Popovich, will showcase rescued dogs
and cats and their hilarious tricks on July 26. The
series wraps Aug. 9 with “Hand to Mouth,” a
performance of storytelling, music and song by Eric and
Kristy Price, a talented husband and wife team. All
performances are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
and take place at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Admission is $3. Advanced purchases are recommended as
performances sell out quickly. Call 455-7340.
Most
County centers offer Summer RecTrek, which gives
children an active alternative when school is out.
Mail-in and walk-in registration is currently underway
for the camps, which operate on weekdays from June 11
through Aug. 24. Cost is $14 per day or $65 weekly.
Online registration is not available for RecTrek, but
parents can pay with a credit card at their local
RecTrek site.
The
13 urban community and senior centers offer a wide range
of classes in fitness, personal development, arts,
sports and leisure activity categories, as well as
special events and field trips. There are programs for
all ages and interests, such as pre-school level Arts
and Crafts, Tai Chi, computers and Spanish language
classes. Some centers also offer fitness rooms and
computer labs.
Winchester
Cultural Center’s classes and workshops in the cultural and
performing arts are geared for ages preschool through
seniors. Four- and 12-week sessions begin June 4. In
addition, Winchester also offers a small selection of fitness classes,
