Clark County Public Works announces that a project to
reconstruct the Flamingo Wash at Nellis Boulevard is now
substantially complete. The new structures and
deepened channel will now accommodate a higher volume of
stormwater and provide even more flood protection to
life and property in the area. The roadway
pavement and median over the bridge and in the immediate
area have also been repaired, in addition to the
relocation of a sanitary sewer line.
Utility
line breaks and several severe storms over the past
years resulted in damage to previous channel structures.
Subsurface erosion due to the water eventually affected
the roadway pavement condition adjacent to the bridge.
"The
channel improvements have been made just in time for the
months we consider our flash flood season, from July to
September," said Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani,
who represents Commission District E where the project
is located.
The
roadway on Nellis Boulevard from Tropicana Avenue to Las
Vegas Boulevard North is operated and maintained by the
Nevada Department of Transportation. The
improvements that were completed with this channel
project were not able to address the general pavement
issues on Nellis Boulevard that still exist outside the
bridge area. A future project to resurface Nellis
Boulevard between Tropicana Avenue to Charleston is
included in NDOT's 2008 budget that is pending Nevada
State Transportation Board consideration and approval.
Members of the public that have questions regarding
pavement conditions on Nellis Boulevard and the
scheduling for future resurfacing can contact the Nevada
Department of Transportation at 385-6500.
