On September 28, traffic signal devices were activated at the intersection of El Capitan Way and Spring Mountain Road. This signal installation will enhance the safety for the drivers of the approximately 25,000 vehicles that cross this intersection on a typical workday. Drivers are urged to use extra caution as they become accustomed to the new signal.

The El Capitan and Spring Mountain signal is part of a contract which also included previously installed traffic signals at three other locations. The other signals are located at Cimarron and Spring Mountain, Hacienda and Lindell, and Hacienda and Torrey Pines. In the past six months, a total of ten new traffic signals have been installed in the southwest Las Vegas Valley.

Clark County Public Works has activated 26 new signals throughout the valley in the past year. That averages a new signal activation every two weeks! At present, 10 additional traffic signals are part of awarded construction contracts, and another 10 signals are being designed.

Traffic control devices like those at El Capitan and Spring Mountain help to make the roads safer when motorists obey them. Please make certain that you are following good driving habits.  Don't jeopardize your safety and the safety of others by "running red." About 22% of all urban crashes are caused from running red lights or stop signs. Clark County and a host of local and state government agencies urge you to practice safe driving habits.
