Land Use Plan Updates in Progress

The Northeast County land use plan has been updated and was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners at a public hearing on September 6, 2006 .  This plan includes Bunkerville, Moapa, Moapa Valley , and Overton.  The major issue for this area is growth and how to accommodate that growth through good planning without losing the rural atmosphere.

Laughlin has held two open houses in the process of updating the Laughlin land use plan.  The first open house on March 4 gathered suggestions from 150 residents, business owners and developers.  These suggestions were then implemented into the draft plan which was presented to 94 members of the public at the second open house on July 8.  These meetings were held at the Regional Government Center in Laughlin on Saturdays during the day to accommodate as many interested parties as possible.  The issues being addressed in this area include residential housing, preservation of the Riverwalk and accommodating growth while maintaining as much open space as possible.  Public hearings scheduled for the Laughlin land use plan update are at the Planning Commission on March 6 and at the Board of County Commissioners on March 21.  These meetings will be held in commission chambers at the Clark County Government Center at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway .

The Whitney land use plan update process began with an open house held September 6.  More than 50 residents, business owners and developers attended the evening meeting. Major issues of concern included improving transportation connectivity, identifying transit stations for the MAX bus system expected in 2007, and making Boulder Highway pedestrian friendly with sidewalk installations.  The need for workforce housing and resolving the many nonconforming zone changes were also discussed.  The land use plan was then reviewed by the Planning Advisory Group which implemented suggestions gathered at the first open house and created a draft of the plan update which will be presented to the public at the second open house on November 15.  Tentative public hearing dates are scheduled for the Planning Commission on May 1, and the Board of County Commissioners on May 16.

The update of the Northwest County land use plan begins with three open houses which will be held for Indian Springs, Mt. Charleston and Red Rock on Nov. 8th, 13th and 16th..  These open houses include the communities of Mountain Springs, Lower Kyle Canyon , Corn Creek, Cold Creek and Blue Diamond.  Zone changes are a major issue in this area.
