A new traffic signal was activated at
the intersection of Spring Mountain Road and Tenaya Way
on April 26. Extra caution is suggested in the area
while drivers become familiar with the operation of the
traffic control device.
Commissioner Lynette Boggs McDonald
officially flipped the switch for the signal’s
operation. Officials from Clark County Public Works and
Wells Cargo were also in attendance to celebrate the
installation and activation of the traffic safety
device. The signal’s placement is significant ---
25,000 vehicles pass through the intersection on a
typical weekday.
"This intersection experiences more
than 25,000 vehicle trips each and every day, including
numerous trucks which operate from the nearby Wells Cargo
industrial site. I am confident this traffic signal will
greatly enhance the public safety of Spring Mountain
Road," said County Commissioner Lynette Boggs
McDonald.
The Spring Mountain Road/Tenaya signal
is the first of seven traffic signals that will be
activated in this area between now and August. In
mid-May, Clark County Public Works expects that three
traffic signals at the intersections of Durango and Lone
Mountain, Maryland and Pyle, and Sahara and Tree Line
will be installed. Motorists should watch for these new
traffic signals that will be replacing the previous stop
signs in those areas.

Since June 2005, the County has
activated 14 new traffic signals. By January 2007, it is
anticipated that a total of thirty-six new signals will
have been placed in service. These signals are a result
of the County’s efforts to identify intersections that
need signals, and to design and construct those devices
as quickly as possible.
Traffic control devices help to make the
roads safer only when motorists obey them. Clark County
has seen a significant rise in traffic accidents and
traffic fatalities, partially due to drivers running red
lights. Could you be one of them? Are you jeopardizing
your safety and the safety of others by "running
red?" About 22% of all urban crashes are caused
from running red lights or stop signs.
