Clark
County Recognizes Public Works Week -
May 21 - 27,
2006

National Public Works Week is an
annual recognition of how the essential and everyday
functions of public works contribute to the quality of
our community life. Public works can include: traffic
control, street lights, roadways, transit, water, sewer,
flood control and other critical services. During the
week long event, tens of thousands of engineers and
other professionals are acknowledged for their efforts
in designing, building, maintaining and managing these
systems and components of the infrastructure. The
American Public Works Association instituted the program
in 1960.

The theme for this year’s National
Public Works Week is "Public Works: The Heart of
Every Community." This theme is particularly
fitting as the functions of several agencies including
Clark County departments of Public Works, Real Property
Management and Water Reclamation; Regional Flood Control
District; Regional Transportation Commission of Southern
Nevada; Las Vegas Valley Water District; Southern Nevada
Water Authority; and the public works agencies in
Southern Nevada’s incorporated cities are vital for
our thriving community.

Just think – as you are reading
this article, your roadways, water supply,
transportation and sewage and other necessary services
are being managed by public works agencies.
