July 8 Open House Invites Comments on
Proposed Changes

Residents, builders and business
operators interested in the future of Laughlin are
invited to attend an open house Saturday, July 8,
to discuss the area’s draft land use plan update.
This plan is important because it is used to guide
growth in the town’s neighborhoods.
The Laughlin open house is scheduled from
11 a.m.
to
2 p.m.
at the Regional Government Center, Town Hall
Room,
101 Civic Way
in Laughlin. The meeting is being held on Saturday
to accommodate as many members of the public as
possible. The draft goals, policies and maps will
show how county staff has implemented comments gathered
in previous meetings with residents, business owners and
developers for updates to the Laughlin land use plan.
The update of the Laughlin land use plan is the sixth to
take place since the
County
Commission
adopted a new ordinance in 2003 to make master plans
more reliable. Spring Valley,
Enterprise
, Winchester/Paradise and
Sunrise Manor
land use plan updates were adopted recently. The update
process takes about 12 months. The
Northeast
County
land use plan is now being updated. Between 2003
and 2007, most of the unincorporated county’s 11
master plans will undergo updates. Citizen participation
is considered a crucial link in the process.
The
open house is an opportunity to identify issues and
needs affecting the future of Laughlin and suggest
additional changes to the draft plan. Recommendations
will be forwarded to the Town Advisory Board, the
Planning Commission and eventually the
County
Commission
for adoption of the new plan.
“The
issues being addressed in this area include residential
housing, preservation of the Riverwalk and accommodating
growth while maintaining as much open space as
possible,” said Commissioner Bruce Woodbury, who
represents Laughlin. “We need community residents and
business owners to review and approve the draft update
plan.”

process, visit Comprehensive Planning’s website at

posted online showing the county’s 11 land-use areas
and a tentative schedule showing a timetable for
updates. To contact planners working on this update,
