The Clark County
Fire Department held a multi-company drill and family
night in May. Multi-
company drills bring engine, truck, and rescue companies
together to follow a scenario developed by the
department's training division. Firefighters complete
routine tasks (i.e., put out fire) while infrequent
tasks (i.e., injured or trapped firefighter, building
collapse, or multiple victims needing rescue) are
interjected into the drill. Firefighters
are evaluated during the drill to ensure they are
operating within department standards on operations and
safety.

On
family night the firefighter's spouse (or significant
other), children, family, and friends are invited to
watch them complete the multi- company drill. This is an
opportunity for families and friends to observe their
loved ones in action, arriving with lights and sirens at
a burning structure and performing their duties.

Observing the
firefighters in action gives family and friends piece of
mind that their firefighters are using the most
sophisticated equipment and highest level of training to
safely complete their jobs. Following the drill, family
members and friends have the “hands on” opportunity
to explore all the fire apparatus and vehicles.
Children especially enjoy handling hoselines as
they squirt water at an object.
