County Residents Invited to Join Partnership Developing Trails and Park Areas in Laughlin

Residents are invited to help create and enhance a network of trails, parks and public use areas in Laughlin by joining the Colorado River Greenway Heritage Trail (CRGHT) Partnership.

This grassroots committee has already worked for several years with varied government and civic organizations to diversify recreational opportunities in the Colorado River community. More than a dozen committee members, representing a cross section of the region, are currently developing a master plan guide to ensure land use planning for trails and the protection of natural, cultural and economic resources in the area.

The CRGHT Partnership meets monthly working as a team to create a multi-use network of trails to enhance the enjoyment of residents and visitors to the Laughlin area.

Construction and development of several miles of multi-use trails on Bureau of Reclamation Lands north of the Laughlin Bridge is set to begin late next year and will feature nearly $32 million worth of facilities, trailheads, parks, fishing nodes and equestrian trails.

The North Reach project, as it is called, has been eight years in the making and is funded by the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act. It will serve as a remarkable and inspiring anchor for a community-wide trails system through Laughlin south to Nevada’s Big Bend State Park.

The goals of the CRGHT Partnership have been furthered by assistance from the National Parks Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation program. Additionally, a sister organization exists in the neighboring community of Bullhead City, Az known as the CRGHT Partnership East.

Members of the CRGHT on both sides of the river hope to connect the system across the Colorado River to create a unique trails experience which might feature birding areas, a river trail segment for canoe and kayakers and re-vegetation along the banks.

CRGHT members have developed the following objectives:

  • Ensure protection and enhancement of cultural and historic resources in the Laughlin area.

  • Promote economic development while preserving the “lifestyle” along the Colorado River.

  • Promote a healthy lifestyle for residents and visitors to Laughlin.

  • Provide seamless trail connectivity to surrounding states.

For more information or to attend the next scheduled meeting, call Jo Elle Hurns at the Laughlin Town Manager’s Office at 298-0828 or send a message to email joelle@co.clark.nv.us.

Trails along the Nevada side of the Colorado River in Laughlin (planned in an area pictured here) will soon become a reality as the community begins its final design stages for several miles of trails, a fully-redeveloped, day-use park at the base of Davis Dam, fishing nodes, equestrian trails, public facilities and many more attractive public use districts to the tune of $31 million. Funding, which will allow for construction over the next three years, is provided by the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act. Planning for a system of trails throughout the community is the charge of the Colorado River Greenway Heritage Trails Partnership. Community members and interested parties are being asked to join the partnership.
