Nellis is now opened to traffic as far south as Russell Road , following the completion of two new bridges on Nellis Boulevard , one over Duck Creek Wash and the other over I-515/US95.  Two lanes were added in each direction on Nellis between Hacienda to Russell with traffic signals at Nellis/Hacienda and one at Nellis/Russell. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada funded this $9.5 million project.

The area was open and available to traffic on July 13 after a ribbon-cutting ceremony.  County officials praised area residents and business owners for their cooperation and patience regarding partial closures necessary to complete the construction.

The opening of this stretch along Nellis Boulevard is expected to ease some of this area's traffic congestion, particularly on Tropicana and Mountain Vista.  Motorists and neighborhood residents will now have a better way to and from the southern part of the valley.  Motorists who choose to use this new section of Nellis Boulevard should note that there is no access to the I-515 or US 95 from Nellis within this area.  To access I-515 or US 95, drivers can use the Tropicana Avenue or Russell Road interchanges.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution as they become accustomed to the new traffic signals.  Good driving habits, including paying attention to the road while driving, would greatly reduce the rate of traffic accidents and fatal car crashes in our valley.  Safe driving tips are available on the county’s website, www.accessclarkcounty.com, by clicking on the icon for “Bad Driving – What’s Your Excuse?”.
