FEBRUARY 2008

Twain Avenue Lane Restrictions for Water Reclamation work:
Hi and welcome to today’s Traffic Ticker.
Today, I would like to let the valley’s motorists know about some construction work, which will greatly impact those motorists who routinely use the intersections of Twain Avenue and Barcelona Street as well as Viking Road at Royal Viking Way.
From now, February 5th through February 21st,
construction crews working for Clark County’s Water Reclamation District will be in the process of upgrading this area’s sewer pipelines. Additionally, crews will be working on Twain between Gorky and Scotwood streets from now through March 13th as well. Both work zones will feature lane restrictions while the crews complete the necessary work. According to Water Reclamation District officials, the main entrances to Pecos Villas and Heritage Square will need to be closed for approximately six weeks. While these closures are in place, folks needing to access the Pecos Villas should use the fire access gates located off Pecos Road. For folks wanting to access Heritage Square, they can use either the entrance at Pecos Road and Colony Avenue or the entrance at Centennial Street near Sandhill Road. While this work is being done, the area’s motorists should allow extra travel time and use caution as they travel adjacent to the established work zones.
So, for everyone’s safety, please drive safely, and obey all traffic control devices. The life you save could be your own, or the life of a loved one.

JANUARY 2008

Lamb Blvd Lane Restrictions - Hi and welcome to today’s Traffic Ticker.
Today, I would like to remind the valley’s motorists know about some lane restrictions and roadway maintenance efforts, which will impact their travels for the next three weeks.
As of Tuesday, January 29th, the traffic capacity of Lamb Boulevard is being reduced daily to one travel lane in direction between Owens Avenue and Charleston Boulevard. These lane restrictions are scheduled to be in place from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each workday. Plans are to reopen this section of Lamb Boulevard to its full traffic capacity by 3 p.m. each workday. These lane restrictions are necessary to accommodate the city’s field operations crews, who will be doing pavement patch work and installing conduit for this section of Lamb. While this work is being done, motorists who must use this section of Lamb should expect to encounter delays and traffic flow disruptions. The area’s motorists wanting to avoid these potential delays should use an alternate route such as Pecos Road or Nellis Boulevard for their north- or southbound travels. These lane restrictions and work on Lamb are expected to be removed and finished before the end of February. While this work is being done, business and residential access will be maintained.
So, for everyone’s safety, please drive safely, and obey all traffic control devices. The life you save could be your own, or the life of a loved one.

Warm Springs Pave-a-Thon - Hi and welcome to today’s Traffic Ticker.
Today, I would like to let the valley’s motorists know about some dense-grade paving operations, which will greatly impact their travels along a section Warm Springs Road this weekend.
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, January 25th and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday, January 28th - Warm Springs Road between Las Vegas Boulevard and Dean Martin Drive will be reduced to one travel lane - - yes, one lane of one-way travel. The contractor’s flagging personnel will be utilized to coordinate and monitor the traffic flow through the established work zone. Although the project’s dense-grade paving operations are slated to be finished by 5 a.m. Monday, motorists should know that the normal travel lanes will be reopened as quickly as possible once the necessary paving is completed and the roadways are made safe for use. While this work is being done, motorists, who normally use this section of Warm Springs Road and Dean Martin Drive, are highly encouraged to use an alternate route. By using an alternate route, motorists will help minimize the area’s traffic congestion, and possibly avoid potential delays.
So, for everyone’s safety, please drive safely, and obey all traffic control devices. The life you save could be your own, or the life of a loved one.

215 Beltway / Decatur Blvd - Hi and welcome to today’s Traffic Ticker.
Today, I would like to let the valley’s south-side motorists know about an overnight closure, which will greatly impact those motorists, who routinely use Decatur Boulevard to access the 215.
From 9 p.m. Monday, Jan 21st to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 22nd, Decatur Boulevard at the 215 in the valley’s southern region will be closed to through traffic flow. During this closure, southbound Decatur’s motorists will only be able to access the westbound 215 while at the same time, northbound Decatur’s motorists will only be able to access the eastbound 215. While the closure is in place, the westbound 215’s motorists will only be able to access northbound Decatur, while the eastbound 215’s motorists will only be able to access southbound Decatur. During the closure, no one will be allowed to travel on Decatur as it passes under the bridge structures at the 215. This overnight closure is necessary to accommodate construction personnel as they erect the falsework needed for the widening of the interchange’s current bridge structures.
While this work is being done, motorists, who normally use this section of Decatur Boulevard, are highly encouraged to use an alternate route. By using an alternate route, motorists will help minimize the area’s traffic congestion, and possibly avoid potential delays.
So, for everyone’s safety, please drive safely, and obey all traffic control devices. The life you save could be your own, or the life of a loved one.

Blue Diamond Road - Hi and welcome to today’s Traffic Ticker.
Today, I would like to let the valley’s south-side motorists know about some upcoming construction activities, which could impact their travels for the next several months.
The Nevada Department of Transportation has broken ground for its 52.2 million-dollar project on State Route 160 (or more locally referred to as the Blue Diamond Road) between Decatur and Rainbow boulevards. The primary feature of this project will be the construction of a grade separation over the Union Pacific Railroad crossing within this area. In addition to the grade separation over the railroad crossing, this project will realign the nearby Jones Boulevard intersection and widen the Blue Diamond Road to eight travel lanes (four lanes in each direction). While this work is taking place, motorists, who use this section of Blue Diamond Road, should expect to encounter various lane restrictions as they travel adjacent to the established work zone. Motorists, who normally use this section of Blue Diamond, are encouraged to use an alternate route. By using an alternate route, motorists will avoid any potential delays and help minimize the area’s traffic congestion. This project is expected to be finished during the first quarter of 2009.
So, for everyone’s safety, please drive safely, and obey all traffic control devices. The life you save could be your own, or the life of a loved one.

Craig Road - Hi and welcome to today’s Traffic Ticker.
Today, I would like to let the valley’s north-side motorists know about some recently started construction activities, which could impact their travels for the next several months.
The Nevada Department of Transportation has started work on its 34.2 million-dollar project on Craig Road between Berg Street and Pecos Road. The primary feature of this project will be the construction of a grade separation over the Union Pacific Railroad crossing within this area. In addition to the grade separation over the nearby railroad crossing, construction efforts on this project will widen Craig Road to six travel lanes (three in each direction). While this work is taking place, motorists, who choose to use this section of Craig Road, should expect to encounter various lane restrictions as they travel adjacent to the established work zone. Motorists, who normally use this section of Craig Road, are highly encouraged to use an alternate route. By using an alternate route, motorists may avoid any potential delays and help minimize the area’s traffic congestion. This project is expected to be finished during the summer months of 2009.
So, for everyone’s safety, please drive safely, and obey all traffic control devices. The life you save could be your own, or the life of a loved one.

Bicycle Safety - Hi and welcome to today’s Traffic Ticker.
Today, I would like to offer the valley’s bicycling population a few safety tips that could make each two-wheeled journey more enjoyable.
Bicyclists, who use the valley’s roadway network for their means of getting from one place to another, should remember that they must obey all traffic signs, signals and pavement markings--just like their motorized counterparts.
When on a valley roadway, a bicyclist must travel on the “right” side of the road, a vehicle’s driver will see you better. Besides that, it is a state law.
Because bicycles are not equipped with blinkers, a bicyclist should use the appropriate hand signal when preparing to make a turn. By doing so, the driver of a nearby vehicle will know what you are about to do rather than be surprised by your sudden change of direction.
At an intersection, a bicyclist should get off his or her bicycle and walk the bicycle across the intersection when it is safe to do so. Riding one’s bicycle across a busy intersection may appear to be a faster way to cross the street; however, it is not the safest way to cross the intersection with a bicycle. Bicyclists, like their motorized counterparts, should remember that pedestrians normally have the right of way.
So, for everyone’s safety, please drive safely and obey all traffic control devices. The life you save could be your own, or the life of a loved one.
