Bulgarian Folk Music April 15

World Music Concerts Continue at Winchester Cultural Center

World Vibration, a music series sponsored by Clark County Parks and Recreation, continues on April 15 at 2 p.m. at Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Dr., just north of Desert Inn Rd. with a performance of Bulgarian folk music by fiddle player Angel Gadzhev with his band of five musicians and a vocalist. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors.

Angel Gadzhev was born in 1966 in Rakovski, Bulgaria. He began his musical studies at the age of six, and at age 11 he was offered a position with the Ensemble of Smolian City. Two years later he was invited to play with the International Assembly of Peace. In 1980, at age 14, he was honored with an invitation to play at the Big Gosh Festival in Poland.

In 1988 he joined the National Ensemble for Music and Dance, and for the next dozen years with the company he toured Europe and the United States. He also performed in Japan with the Slavei Quartet during the 1990s. In addition to performing internationally, Gadzhev has taught fiddle and has recorded his music on CD.

World Vibration is hosted by KUNV 91.5 FM radio announcer Kay Tuma. Tuma commented about the series, "People love world music. I’ve been playing it on the radio for over ten years, and I get so many calls of thanks. But hearing the music live is even better, and we certainly have the musicians to make that happen. I’m so glad we can have a series dedicated to the music of the whole world."

The series continues with a program of Chinese music on May 27. For information call 455-7340, or visit the website at www.accessclarkcounty.com/parks..
