County Names New Social Service Director
Clark County announced today the appointment of Patricia K. Pate to the post of Social Service director. Pate replaces Darryl Martin who was promoted to assistant county manager in October.
Pate starts her new position on Jan. 17. Her appointment comes at the end of a national search that produced nearly 100 applicants. County Manager Thom Reilly selected Pate out of four finalists.
"Patricia’s experience at leading human services organizations in the government, non-profit and private sectors is going to be an asset to the Social Service department," said Reilly. "Her ability and track record at building partnerships among all three sectors is what I think the community, the county and other jurisdictions will benefit from most."
Pate was most recently director of the Department of County Human Services in Multnomah County, Oregon, where she was responsible for all service and administrative aspects of the department’s divisions of Aging and Disability Services, Mental Health and Addition Services, Domestic Violence Services and Developmental Disability Services.
Prior to this, she served in various positions in the private and non-profit sectors including executive director of Community Outreach, Inc., Oregon's largest private non-profit serving a four-county area. In this position, Pate was responsible for the multi-site human services agency that served as the counties' contracted social service agency providing shelters for the homeless, job development, addiction services, child abuse and family counseling, and mental, physical and dental clinics that operated seven days a week.
Pate holds a bachelor of science in accounting and business administration from Oregon State University. She is also a recipient of the Inaugural Oregon Governor’s Award for Community Partnerships, the United Nations’ Women in Leadership Award and the Hewlett-Packard Community Leadership Award.
