Life-saving Skills for Babysitters

Teens earning spending money this summer babysitting can now improve their skills through free Safe Sitter classes held at University Medical Center.

UMC offers free Safe Sitter classes to adolescents age 11 to 13. Safe Sitter classes teach would-be babysitters how to handle emergencies when caring for children.

The two-day program covers basic child care, how to call for emergency help, first aid, safety, and babysitting business skills. A certificate is given to participants upon successful completion of the Safe Sitter program.

The Safe Sitter certificate lets parents know the babysitter has the knowledge and skills to watch their children.

Thousands of young adolescents across the country have been trained by Safe Sitter to handle life-threatening emergencies. All information is medically accurate and is taught by trained Safe Sitter instructors.  Participants get hands-on practice in basic life-saving techniques so they are prepared to act in a crisis.

Safe Sitter classes are held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

                        June 19 and 20

                        July 17 and 18

                        July 31 and August 1

                        August 14 and 15

The free classes are held at the Family Resource Center at UMC, 1120 Shadow Lane. Call (702) 383-2229 for more information or to register.
