Summer Class Registration Opens in April

Clark County Urban Centers Offer a Variety of Activities for All Ages

Mail-in registration for Clark County Parks and Recreations classes and workshops begins April 20, with online registration starting at 7 a.m. April 21, for all three four-week sessions beginning June 4. Walk-in registration starts May 14. Registration forms for recreation classes are available at all County community centers and in the Class and Activity Guide. Online registration is at www.accessclarkcounty.com/parks.

Summer RecTrek, the Countys program for children on school break, will begin taking mail-in registration March 30 for the program which begins on June 11. Walk-in registration begins April 9. Cost is $14 per day or $65 weekly. There is a 50 percent discount for the third child if enrolling for a full week.

The program is available at Desert Breeze and Helen Meyer community centers on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley and at Paradise, Parkdale, Sunrise, Cambridge, Hollywood and Walnut recreation centers on the east side. There is no online registration for RecTrek, but parents can pay at the centers with a credit card.

Class offerings at the 13 urban community and senior centers include a wide range of choices in fitness, personal development, arts, sports and leisure activity categories, as well as special events and field trips. There are programs for all ages and interests, such as pre-school level Arts and Crafts, Tai Chi, computers and Spanish language classes. Some centers also offer fitness rooms and computer labs.

Winchester Cultural Centers classes and workshops in the cultural and performing arts are geared for ages preschool through seniors. Four- and 12-week sessions begin June 4. In addition to classes in the arts, Winchester also offers a small selection of fitness classes, concert, dance and film series, and an art gallery. The center also offers a fine arts summer camp beginning in June. Call 455-7340 for additional information.

Clark County urban centers are located throughout the valley. Urban recreation and senior centers which offer classes and workshops include Cambridge Recreation Center on Cambridge Street and East Flamingo Road; Cora Coleman Senior Center on Lake Mead Boulevard and Bonnie Lane; Desert Breeze Park & Center on Spring Mountain Road and Durango Drive; Helen Meyer Center near Flamingo Road and Tenaya Way; Hollywood Center on Hollywood Boulevard and Sahara Avenue; Paradise Center, McLeod Drive and Tropicana Avenue; Parkdale Center near Desert Inn Road and Boulder Highway; Sunrise Center near Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards; Walnut Center on Walnut Road and Cheyenne Avenue; West Flamingo Active Adult Center on West Flamingo Road and Jones Boulevard; Whitney Recreation and Senior Center near East Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway; and Winchester Cultural Center on McLeod Drive, just north of Desert Inn Road.
