Star Catchers
|
|
The Winchester Star Catchers Dance Program began as one hip-hop class with five students in 1999. In 2002, with more dancers enrolled, the youth decided they wanted to perform, and they chose the Star Catchers name.
Since then, the program has grown to include beginning, intermediate, advanced and performing team classes with students from ages 8 to 17. As the dancers perfected their skills, their interests overflowed to include more dance genres. Shows such as “So You Think You Can Dance” opened their eyes to other avenues, and they turned to Winchester Cultural Center and Star Catchers to meet their needs. Due to demand, a beginning-level contemporary dance class was added to the schedule in 2008.
In 2007, the Winchester Star Catchers celebrated its fifth anniversary by participating in Disney’s Magic Music Days in Southern California. The dancers also have performed in the Helldorado Parade as well as multiple community events around the Las Vegas Valley. They also perform at various Winchester Cultural Center events throughout the year.
The program runs in 12-week sessions in the spring, summer and fall and hosts three annual recitals.
