An electronic newsletter from
Clark County Shooting Park and the Parks & Recreation Department

Volume 5, Issue 1
January-February 2009

Fall Greetings!

This is our first eBULLETin update from the Clark County Shooting Park for this year. Great progress has been made since our last update.

Construction
Work is continuing on the grounds. The first roadways were paved and sidewalks are being installed. The civil portion is estimated at 77% completed. This includes the extensive flood control structures, water delivery system and all on site utilities.

The block work for the four buildings is almost completed. Work will begin soon on the roof structures. The two metal buildings will begin within the next two weeks.

Landscaping will also begin soon.

We are also developing the procedures manuals necessary to operate the shooting park safely, and we are currently purchasing all the materials necessary for its operation such as targets, clay birds, picnic tables, scorers stations, vehicles, etc.

Public Outreach
In January 2009, we had our first newly revamped Trade Show Training Course at the Aliante Library in North Las Vegas. Eight volunteers attended this training. In February we completed our second session with a combined training program of Cornerstone and Trade Show that took place on Saturday February 21st. This training class was team taught with personnel from the Clark County Parks & Recreation Department Volunteer Program with lectures from the Neighborhood Justice Center and Park Police. The training class consisted of 57 volunteers with interests in the Clark County Parks & Recreations Department and the Clark County Shooting Park.

These newly trained volunteers will assist us with upcoming events. At the end of January we took our trade show booth to the first Crossroads of the West Gun Show for 2009. The show was held at its new location at the Tropicana Hotel. The show was a great success, and we contacted over 250 individuals some of whom were unaware of the shooting park. We will continue to show at the Crossroads of the West Gun Shows this year as well as extend into some new venues.

Web Page
We would like to call your attention to our web page at Shooting Park where we have posted a great deal of information including future employment, volunteer opportunities and a new feature as we have added a “scrap book” of construction photos. So please visit our site.

Personnel
Our Administration Supervisor Gena Crunden has taken a position with the Government Center of Clark County. We are currently evaluating that vacancy for filling. We are also moving forward with the new positions for the opening of the shooting park. Our next eBULLETin will have those details. Becky Flynn has been transferred to the Shooting Park as our Capital Development Analyst. She is already working on several agreements with future vendors and operators.

Litigation
We will be in Federal Court in early April 2009 for a hearing on an injunction filed to stop the construction of the shooting park. This has been in process for many months now and has been the subject of several newspaper, TV and radio stories. We will keep you posted as to the progress of this case. Due to this publicity, many residents of the greater Las Vegas Valley have heard about the new shooting park and we are receiving a great deal of requests for more information, especially inquiries about our services and schedules.

Thank you for your interest and we will keep you posted on our progress. Please feel free to contact us through the web page and email if you have any questions.

Until next time,
Don Turner, Manager
Clark County Shooting Park
