An electronic newsletter from
Clark County Shooting Park and the Parks & Recreation Department

Volume 4, Issue 4
August-November 2008

Fall Greetings!

The Clark County Shooting Park construction is well under way, and we have been very busy these last four months.

Our primary efforts have been in construction. The grading is all completed, the water lines are installed, the electricity lines are in place, and the sanitary system is being installed. We are enclosing some pictures of this activity to share with you. The pictures do not do the site justice however. Watching track hoes and earthmovers in actual operation is much more exciting than looking at a static picture!

Cobblestone Construction has been awarded the building contracts and will begin the foundation work around the first week of November. Nevada Power is tying us into their power distribution system, so in a couple of weeks we will have full power on the site.

So far we are on schedule and are looking towards a “soft opening” in June 2009. We would like a gala grand opening ceremony and are beginning plans to select a date somewhere between August and October for the ceremony.

Trap and Skeet Fields, blocks waiting for completion of the trap/skeet house foundations.
Construction of water control device, east flood control channel
Excavation of sanitary system, Education Center
Installing water lines at Host Compound
Grading lateral berm on 100 yard range at Education Center

Our “outreach program” is in full swing and staff has been exhibiting our booth at several local gun shows and trade shows. Our primary focus is currently on the local market to let Clark County Citizens know that the shooting park is going to be open in seven months! Our Outreach Specialist has completed several volunteer/customer service training programs and will offer the first customer service class in early November. So far we have over 40 volunteers for the trade show project. We will be recruiting volunteers for our Retail Business Partnership Project and our Line Safety Office Project in the next several months. All of these projects allow for active and meaningful volunteer participation in the growth and safety of the shooting park.

Our “administrative program” is very active as well. Our Administrative Supervisor has prepared all the documents necessary to equip and furnish the shooting park, its personnel and the seven buildings. We will be pre purchasing much of the materials, as our plan is hire and train staff, move into the buildings and begin operations as soon as possible. Future eBULLETins will announce the employment posting. All our employment opportunities are through the Clark County Department of Human Resources via our web page at www.accessclarkcounty.com.

The Clark County Board of County Commissioners approved ordinances regarding our naming rights, operating procedures and fees last month. We are preparing these documents to post on our web page in the next month.

We hosted our first bus tour of the site. The participants of the NRA Range Development Conference which was held in Las Vegas toured the site with three busses. This was their largest class ever with over 85 students.

Best wishes and please visit our web site at www.accessclarkcounty.com for up to date information and have a safe and joyous holiday season.

Best wishes,
Don Turner, Manager
Clark County Shooting Park
