 An electronic newsletter from
Clark County Shooting Park and the Parks & Recreation Department

Volume 4: Issue 3
June-July 2008

Greetings from Sunny Las Vegas!!

Things are moving along at the Clark County Shooting Park. Construction is well under way and we have been moving forward.

The water service system is nearing final completion. The only construction item left is the installation of the data telemetry towers.

Electricity is being installed in the Decatur Road connection. Once that is completed the water crossings will be installed.

Grading of the site, ranges, and building pads are nearing completion. The main water lines, fire hydrants, valves and boxes are being installed. The North, East and South Flood channels are completed. The first building pad will be completed by October 1st.

Currently, six buildings are out to bid. Bid opening is schedule within the next two weeks. Once the bid is awarded, construction will begin on the main buildings.

The Clark County Board of County Commissioners approved several significant items during these last two months. Items included the ordinances, rules and procedures for the operation and management of the shooting park, as well as awarding the contract for the design of the tourism center.

Of notable significance was the approval of an ordinance for the “Capital Naming Rights Program.” This new program was authorized by the Nevada State Legislature, which allowed Clark County to establish by ordinance a program that will allow us to offer naming rights for buildings, improvements, facilities, features, fixtures, sites and events within the shooting park. A resolution establishing the fees for these naming rights was also approved. Along with this legislation, was the establishment of a distinct “shooting park enterprise fund” which will be utilized for deposition of fees, donations and other funds solely for operations, management, and development of the shooting park. We are currently preparing a presentation package to feature this new program.

This “Capital Naming Rights Program” is designed to stimulate private business-government partnerships to assist with the build out of this facility. We are already under negotiations with two different companies.

Shooting Park staff is preparing documents, which will implement the various Commission actions. A public procedures manual has been completed and 10 other manuals are under development. Training Lesson Plans for superior customer service, trade shows, and business partnership programs are also being completed.
We kicked off our marketing program for local customers in June. Our trade show exhibit was displayed at the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Business Expo on June 18th,, and at the Crossroads of the West Gun Show on August 1st and 2nd.. Based on attendance at the booth displays, and at Commission meetings, letters, petitions and other venues, the Shooting Park has an enormous amount of public support.

We would also like to announce that we have received the EPA Certificate of Recognition for our Environmental Stewardship Plan (Best Management Practices). This was the result of completing an environmental management document, requesting its review by the EPA and meeting and exceeding their standards for environmental management.

As well as completing procedure and safety documents and performing outreach programs, staff has been purchasing supplies and equipment to outfit seven buildings and support 15 staff. Buildings, staff, programs and safety features must all be completed and ready to go on line by our projected opening date of June 2009.

Thank you for your continued interest and support.
