Laura Taylor Quintet Concert
Winchester Cultural Center Theater
3130 S. McLeod Drive. • 455-7340
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for students and seniors.
Concert begins at 2 p.m.
For this performance, Taylor enlisted the talents of four other musicians, including Fred Haller on saxophone and flute, Bob Sachs on bass, Mike Mechem on drums and Alfredo Avarenga on percussion.
Bringing musicians together to create a unique piece of work isn’t new to Taylor. Steve Kuhn, the original pianist in the John Coltrane Quartet; bassist Eddie Gomez and percussionist Lewis Nash collaborated with her on her latest CD, "My Funny Valentine," which features the music of legendary trumpeter Chet Baker.
Nearly everyone has heard Taylor sing. Her solo voice was featured in national campaigns such as United Airlines’ "Fly the Friendly Skies of United" and Buick’s "Wouldn’t You Rather Have a Buick?" television commercials. Later, she signed a six-year contract to sing and play jazz at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and performed in legendary saxophonist Joe Henderson’s quartet.
