“La Gran Posada” is a “pastorela,” a traditional play that takes place in a pastoral or countryside setting and is about “pastores” or shepherds. Pastorelas developed in Mexico from European miracle plays, which were introduced into Mexico in the 1500s.
This particular play, which will be performed in Spanish, tells the story of Joseph and Mary as they search for an inn or “posada” in Bethlehem.
Tayrona Theater Company was founded in 2004 by Jose Vicente Diaz, a native of Colombia, where he gained 20 years of theatrical experience as a teacher in public schools and universities. The company has presented all its productions at Winchester Center and is named for Colombia’s Tayrona region, near the seaport of Santa Marta.
