Food for the Ancestors
Saturday, October 31
Winchester Cultural Center
2 p.m.; Free
This culinary-history film exploration of Mexican traditions explains Day of the Dead and other ancient ways of life that still exist there, as seen through Mexican cuisine. The program is set in the state of Puebla, perhaps Mexico's greatest culinary state, where the greatest of all Mexican dishes was born, mole poblano, and where ancient prehispanic foods are still eaten: insects such as the much-beloved chapulines (grasshoppers).
