drift Exhibit
Tuesday, June 23 through Friday, August 7 w/ Artist Reception Friday June 26
Winchester Cultural Center

Artists Leah Craig and Janet Greek will exhibit their drawings and paintings during the two-person show “drift,” which opens June 23 at the Winchester Gallery inside Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. An artists’ reception will welcome the artists to the space from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., June 26. The exhibit continues through Aug. 7.

Craig has studied and exhibited locally, nationally and internationally in Australia and France and was a selected artist in last year’s Zap2 public art project. In “drift,” Craig says she investigates “the possibility of a break in the propriety of mass communication tools that promote our world’s rapid globalization.” Craig is entering the Master of Fine Arts program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Tufts University in Boston in the fall and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Greek has exhibited locally with the Contemporary Arts Collective, Left of Center Gallery, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; the College of Southern Nevada and Clark County Parks and Recreation, to name a few. A substitute teacher and master’s degree candidate, Greek brings a view of people and their relationships to “drift.”

“I am interested in the relationship of people and environments, memory and real time,” Greek said.” I use watercolor, graphite and charcoal to explore ambiguities between architectural space and the ambivalence of people passing through, fluctuating within their surroundings.”
