The Clark County Department of Aviation is considering a plan to construct a commercial heliport south of Sloan. The heliport would be built upon a 229-acre parcel located just east of Interstate 15, approximately 5.5 miles south of St. Rose Parkway.
The Southern Nevada Regional Heliport would offer commercial helicopter tour operators an alternative to their current operating bases at McCarran International Airport. The proposed heliport should also provide noise relief to thousands of Las Vegas Valley residents who live and work beneath the flight paths currently used by up to 100 helicopters that travel between McCarran and the Grand Canyon each day.
Clark County residents and others interested in the proposed Southern Nevada Regional Heliport can review and comment upon the project’s Draft Environmental Assessment. The public comment period will conclude at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9.
A public workshop will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, within the Clark County Government Center’s cafeteria, located at 500 S. Grand Canyon Parkway near downtown Las Vegas. A public hearing on the draft is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. during the Clark County Board of Commissioners meeting at the Government Center.
The Draft Environmental Assessment can be viewed online at www.ricondoprojects.com/heliport. Hard copies can also be examined at more than 20 Southern Nevada libraries; McCarran International Airport’s fourth floor Planning office; Henderson Executive Airport; North Las Vegas Airport; and the FAA Western-Pacific Region’s office at 15000 Aviation Blvd. in Hawthorne, Calif.
Written comments can be submitted during the public workshop or public hearing, or be mailed to Pamela Adams, CCDOA Planning, P.O. Box 11005, Las Vegas, NV, 89111-1005. Comments can also be hand delivered to the Planning office at McCarran; be faxed to (702) 798-6591; or e-mailed to pamelaa@mccarran.com.
