First-Time Service Available Through County Web Site
For the first time, candidates running for election in Clark County can pre-register their candidacies online.
If you plan to be a candidate for an office that will be on the ballot in 2008, you are encouraged to pre-register through the County Election Department Web site. Go to ww.accessclarkcounty.com/depts/election/english/pages/home.aspx and follow the links to the pre-registration pages.
All candidates still have to go in-person to file to run for office during the May filing period. But those candidates who pre-register will have already completed their paperwork and only have to pay the filing fee, show identification and verify and sign their filing forms.
“This new service will save time for us and the candidates,” Clark County Registrar of Voters Harvard L. Lomax said. “By electronically filing information prior to appearing in person, candidates will significantly reduce the time it takes to file because their paperwork will be essentially complete before they arrive.”
Pre-registration is only available to candidates to be elected from districts within Clark County, including countywide and township offices. This service is not available to candidates for statewide offices.
Candidates will be able to change their information after pre-registering if necessary. Pre-registration information is considered draft information and will only be released to the public after the candidates file for office. The pre-registration information submitted by those who do not file for office will be discarded.
The 2008 election filing period is Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 16. Candidate filings will be accepted during that period on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Pueblo Room on the 1st floor of the Clark County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas.
Candidates who cannot appear in person during the May candidate filing period should contact the Registrar of Voters at 455-2784.
