St. Patrick’s Day Comes Early to Winchester

Events Feature Irish Music and Food March 2

Winchester Cultural Center continues to pair food and music with the World Vibration concert series and World Cuisine cooking demonstration. On March 2, the events will feature tunes and fare from Ireland at the center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. A cooking demonstration with Chef Timothy Welc will begin at noon followed by a concert with The Celtic Travelers at 2 p.m. Cost for the cooking demonstration is $15. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors. Concert audience members who arrive by 1:30 p.m., and are interested in enjoying the culinary creations, can do so for $10 while the cuisine lasts.

The Celtic Travelers is made up of talented musicians who bring the music of the Emerald Isle to life. Lead vocalist and guitarist Robbie Murphy was born and raised in Dublin and has played all over Ireland since the age of 16. Myron Stewart, violin and guitar, began playing his fiddle at the age of 10 and has since won many prestigious competitions and a scholarship to the University of Arizona, where he played in the university’s symphony orchestra. Local musician Tom Flagg, bass and mandolin, is well known throughout the southwestern states for his versatility. He has played with band members George Rhee, bouzouki and vocals, and Stewart in various formats including bluegrass and world music. Rhee has released three CDs and has a long-standing love for Irish music.

Chef Timothy began his culinary career more than 25 years ago, and he has studied under a Master Chef as well as a member of the U.S. Culinary Team. As a special events director, Chef Timothy has created, hosted and executed more than 1,300 events for Fortune 500 companies, celebrities, sports stars and everyday people. For this demonstration, Chef Timothy will bring in an impressive mobile kitchen.

“We hope this becomes a monthly pairing at Winchester,” says Joseph House, coordinator of the cooking demonstration. “We have a unique opportunity to bring not only the music but the food from countries worldwide to a local audience.”

Winchester Cultural Center has hosted musicians from all over the world through the World Vibration Concert Series for the last two and a half years. Musicians from Brazil, Ireland, China, Thailand, Mexico and many other countries have participated in the series, bringing their distinct rhythms to a local stage. The series continues in April with Italian music by Trio Bella Nota.
