Open Houses Set for South County Plan
Public Invited to Offer Input on Concept Plan at Two Events
Clark County Commissioners invite South County residents, builders and business operators to attend open houses to review changes to the area’s land use plan.
The update process for the South County plan began in September 2007. A concept plan, based on input from previous open houses, will be unveiled at the upcoming events on April 7 and April 14. Residents, business owners, property owners and developers are welcome to attend either of the open houses to offer feedback, but different portions of South County will be focused on at specific meetings, as noted in the schedule listed below. County staff will be available at the open houses to discuss the plan and explain changes that were incorporated into the proposal plan based on input from affected communities. Comments about the South County concept plan also can be submitted online via the county’s website, www.accessclarkcounty.com features a section devoted to the master plan update process.
“This is another opportunity for people who live and work in South County to participate in this important process,” said Commissioner Bruce Woodbury who represents most of South County. “County planners hold these meetings so citizens can share their vision on how they want an area to grow and develop.”
The South County is home to several small rural communities and includes the southern portions of Interstate 15 and State Highway 95, which are transportation and commercial gateways into the Las Vegas Valley. Moderate growth and development is expected in the area in the near future. Key issues up for discussion about the area include: the Ivanpah Airport, limited availability of potable water, and transportation and zoning in the planning area.
“Citizen participation is a vital part of our land-use plan update process,” said Commissioner Susan Brager, who represents Sloan. “We want to hear what residents and business owners think of the draft land-use plan for South County. One topic that Sloan residents care about is the impact of recent industrial expansion on residential uses.”
The schedule for the upcoming open houses is as follows:
Monday, April 7 – Eldorado Valley, Nelson and South County 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Boulder City Seniors Center 813 Arizona St., Boulder City
Monday, April 14 –Searchlight, Cal-Nev-Ari, Palm Garden and South County 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Searchlight Community Center 200 Michael Wendell Way, Searchlight, Nev.
Recommendations gathered during open houses as part of the update process will be forwarded to various Town Advisory Boards and Citizen Advisory Councils, the Planning Commission and finally the County Commission.
