About Us

The Department of Juvenile Justice Services (DJJS) is a unique and complex public service agency that performs more than the traditional Juvenile Court functions of probation and detention.  The department is responsible for issuing work permits for minors seeking employment.  For delinquent youth who are 18 and under, the department provides services for intervention, guidance, detainment, treatment, counseling and accountability.  The department consists of four divisions that provide direct services to the youth and families residing in Clark County.  Three of these divisions - Spring Mountain Youth Camp, Juvenile Detention Services and Probation Services - have programs directly related to juvenile justice.  Spring Mountain Youth Camp is a court ordered correctional placement and treatment facility for male offenders.  Juvenile Detention is a temporary holding facility for high risk youth pending Court appearances or institutional placements.  Probation Services provides intake, diversion, supervision and aftercare services for delinquent youth.  The fourth division, Central Support Services, provides general business services for clients, families and departmental staff.  In addition to these four divisions, the department manages several other support programs.  The Psychological Services Unit provides crisis intervention, psychological assessment and family counseling to clients of the various divisions.  The Applications, Research and Technology (ART) Unit, provides for all computer, IT and other technology related functions.  The Community Gang Task Force Project and the Probation Officer Category II POST Academy also fall under the umbrella of services that DJJS is responsible for.

With the dramatic increase in youth with multiple needs combined with the unprecedented population growth in the Las Vegas Valley, DJJS has developed partnerships with community providers to not only provide specialized services for troubled youth, but to assist in developing effective alternative education and treatment programs.
