Cara L. Campbell was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1994 with a Major in Political Science. She continued her graduate education at the University of Pacific-McGeorge School of Law, earning her Juris Doctor in 1997.
Prior to finishing law school, Ms. Campbell served as an extern for the Honorable Judge Donald Mosley of the Eighth Judicial District Court, Clark County, Nevada. In October 1997, she accepted a law clerk position with the Clark County District Attorneys Office and was assigned to the Appellate division. While there, her work included drafting various post-conviction motions, including numerous appellate briefs. The majority of her work was confined to murder cases, and other cases involving life sentences. As a law clerk, Ms. Campbell also wrote multiple letters on behalf of the State of Nevada to the Nevada Parole Board opposing the release of particularly violent and/or repeat offenders.
In June of 1998, Ms. Campbell was promoted to the position of Deputy District Attorney and assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit. There, Ms. Campbell appeared before several Justices of the Peace, trying domestic violence offenses on a daily basis. Additionally, Ms. Campbell co-chaired a double-murder death penalty case involving domestic violence, and obtained a First Degree Murder conviction.
Since 1999, Ms. Campbell has been assigned to various Litigation teams within the office of the Clark County District Attorney and has prosecuted thousands of felony cases of all types, including: drug offenses, theft offenses, sex crimes and crimes of violence, such as homicide.
Ms. Campbell presently serves as the Chief Deputy District Attorney of Recruiting and Training.
