Chris Owens, a resident of Nevada since 1979, received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Brigham Young University in 1977 and a Juris Doctor from McGeorge Law School, University of the Pacific, in 1981. During this time he served a judicial clerkship in the Fifth Judicial District Court and an internship with the Nevada Attorney General, Gaming Division.

Joining the Office of the District Attorney after law school graduation, Mr. Owens has worked under four District Attorneys. He has enjoyed assignments as law enforcement liaison, and in special prosecutions of gang, career criminal and capital crimes offenders.

Mr. Owens was a participant in the Nevada Supreme Court Committee on Uniform Jury Instructions. He has drafted a variety of legislation, including the current Nevada gaming crimes code. He has co-authored training manuals regarding criminal procedure and provided training to local police academy, POST and active law enforcement personnel. He has also lectured at the National College of District Attorneys, and The Anthony Boucher Memorial Mystery Writers Convention, Bouchercon XXXIV.

During his time in the office, Mr. Owens has participated in numerous trials including State of Nevada v. Margaret Rudin, State of Nevada v. William Rundle and State of Nevada v. Orenthal James Simpson. He is a member of the Nevada Bar Association, the United States Bar for the District of Nevada, and the National District Attorney’s Association.
