David Roger was born in Oakland, Calif., in July 1961, and moved to Las Vegas with his parents and younger sister when he was 14.
David went on to graduate from Bishop Gorman High School in 1979. He then attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he majored in accounting and graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.
After graduating from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1986, David returned to Las Vegas and hasn’t left since, spending the last 20 years as a trial attorney representing the citizens of Clark County.
Shortly after passing the Nevada Bar Exam in 1986, David went to work as a law clerk for then-Clark County District Court judges Stephen L. Huffaker and Paul Goldman.
In 1987, David was recruited by the District Attorney’s Office and joined the office as a deputy district attorney. He was soon assigned to work in the Major Violators Unit, where David prosecuted career criminals and murderers, and rose to chief deputy district attorney.
After winning the first election he ever entered, David became Clark County’s District Attorney in 2002. The voters re-elected David four years later.
As the District Attorney, David is the county's top prosecutor and top administrator of an office that handles 58,000 cases a year. David is in charge of an annual budget of $65 million, a staff of 710 attorneys and support personnel, and he continues to handle several cases a year.
For example, he prosecuted and won convictions against Beau and Monique Maestas, a brother and sister who brutally attacked two young girls, James Scholl who set a cab driver on fire during a robbery, and most recently Moises Araujo-Amaya for robbery and attempted murder of a police officer.
Overall, David has handled thousands of cases during his career, including about 70 jury trials, of which 38 were murder trials.
During his legal career, David has been honored and recognized by his peers. In the Martindale – Hubbell legal guide David has the "AV" rating, which is the highest rating for professional and ethical standards.
He was also named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1987.
In addition to being a member of the Nevada Bar Association since 1986, David is member of the Clark County Bar Association, the National District Attorney’s Association and the Nevada District Attorney’s Association, of which he is a past president.
He is also licensed to practice before the U. S. Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and all Nevada federal and state courts.
